Anne Larrea Barclay
My life and career are driven by a personal mission to help others become their best selves, with a focus on children, animals, and the amazing individuals working in and leading non-profit, entrepreneurial and educational organizations.
I started my career as a child and family therapist in a daycare in Chicago. It was a challenging and rewarding position that allowed me the freedom to try different interventions, offer supportive services, and learn more about people. After four years, I moved to a larger agency working directly with children who had been abused or neglected. There, my leadership skills, creativity, and problem solving abilities were recognized, and I was quickly promoted into a management position.
I found that I had a lot to learn about being a supervisor, manager and a leader, sought out every learning opportunity and resource that I could find and in turn, learned so much about myself. I have maintained that desire to grow, stretch, and learn throughout my career.
As I moved into a senior leadership role, I learned how to develop a high functioning team, empower my staff, understand trends and pressures in the field, and manage budgetary demands. At one point, I managed $14 million in programming and more than 200 professionals reported to me. In this time, I realized how engaged and creative I felt when working on staff development, coaching, and team building. I realized that supporting people doing difficult work was really important to me.
As my 50th birthday approached, I began to consider a career shift. I wanted a more well-rounded life to enjoy time with my husband and my pets, and help disadvantaged children and families and the professionals who serve them. I left my senior executive position in January of 2015 and embarked on new adventures – I committed to practicing yoga and committed to become a certified coach and opened my own business. The services I now offer allow me to continue to give back in a way that feels true to me and my life’s mission.
Originally from Mexico City, Mexico, I moved to Chicago for college and fell in love with both the city and a man, who I later married. We have been married for 31 years and currently have 2 fabulous rescued bulldogs, Biscuit and Badger and a brand new bulldog puppy, Bindi. I’m passionate about yoga, bulldogs, animal rescue, K9 Nosework and support a number of charities, mostly focused on children, families, and animal rescue.
